A Drop from an Ocean of the Imam Reza's (a.s.) Life

Imam Ali (A.S.) said: 'Very soon one of my descendants will be martyred by the poison of cruelty in Khorasan. His name is my name and his father's name is the name of Emran's son, Moses.'

The Birth:
Imam Reza (A.S.) was born in Medina on 11th Dhu'l Qi'dah in 148 (A.H). His father's name was Imam Musa-al-Kazem and the name of his mother was Toktam, who was called Najmeh. His holy name was Ali, his surname was Abul Hasan and his title was Reza.

Imamat:
After the martyrdom of Imam Musa-al-Kazem in Baghdad prison, Imam Reza (A.S.) attalned the holy position of Imamat when he was 35 and he held that divine position for about twenty years. Three Abbasid caliphs were his contemporaries: for the first ten years Harun-al-Rashid; for another five years Amin and finally for the last five years Ma'mun.

Conditions of Imam's Period:

The policy of the Abbasid caliph towards the Alavid households was increasingly harsh and cruel, so that they martyred Imam Musa-al-Kazem in prison.

Alavid's frequent revolutions (movements) had led to the instability of the Abbasid government. It was the cruelty, injustice and corruption of the governors that led to Iranians become close to Ali's household (A.S.). One of the Abbasid government's cruelties was that Harun authorised his commander Hamid-lbn-Ghahtaba to kill all the Ahlul-Bait's (A.S.) followers (shia's) everywhere.

This cruel governor killed 60,000 followers and innocent people in one night. In During the development of the Islamic religion, the Abbasid caliphs abused Bani A'mam and also the relationship of the Ali's (A.S.) sons. They tried to make the ignorant ideas and aristocratic lifestyle of the ignorant age alive.
