heart and soul. He repeated the following sentence a few times: Vigilance, keeping focused, vigilance, remember God and don't ever forget Him.

In the Path of the Holy Qur'an
He had extraordinary respect for the Holy Qur'an. One of his students, who were also one of the translators of his book AL-MIZAN had said: 'One day while I was translating AL-MIZAN, I had a Qur'an and AL-MIZAN in my hand. I needed to open another book, so with the purpose of not losing my page, I put the Qur'an face down the floor. Allameh saw what I was doing and immediately picked up the Qur'an, kissed it and said: "Please don't do so any more."

'He would always say, We should explain the matters in the Qur'an in the manner in which the Qur'an has explained them itself, not in the way we would like it to be or how we understand it. If we believe in our own personal interpretations of the Holy Qur'an, then our beliefs have no value. (The Holy Qur'an interprets itself in a manner that some Ayahs explain others).

According to his beliefs, the traditions of the Holy Infallible Imams (AS) and other sciences    prepare    ground   for   a   deep

understanding of the Holy Qur'an. AL-MIZAN took 20 years to complete and was a blessing destined for him. Martyr Morteza Motahhari commented on this major work: AL-MIZAN was not written solely from his thoughts and understanding, I believe a large amount of it was from a Divine Inspiration.

Humbleness
The trait of humbleness among scholars is very apparent. With having all that knowledge and rank, they never felt superior to others. Allameh Tabatabaei was the best example in this manner. He was never embarrassed to say: I don't know, when he didn't, and would easily accept criticism. Even though he was one of the major scholars at the Hawza (Islamic Seminaries at Qom), he had high respect for all other Ayatollahs as well. His respect for them was so great that he was ready to stop one of his philosophy classes to adhere to what another scholar had asked him. At another occasion when people would commend him on AL-MIZAN, he would say, Please don't say these types of things, I may start liking it and my sincerity will vanish. It was nothing, really.
