THE BLESSINGS OF RAMADHAN
The Prophet's Sermon in rhyme

BELOVED RAMADHAN again is here,
That most excellent time of year.
The Prophet said: "With this month has come
Allah's Mercy and Blessings for everyone.
This month is the best month, so Allah has decreed,
Of the months that follow and the months that precede;
Of all the days likewise, its days are the best,
And of all the hours, its hours stand out above the rest.


You, in this special month, Allah invites
To fast, and to pray far into its nights.
In it you are honored by your Lord;
Great, indeed, is your reward!
So, pray in earnest with a pure heart,
And Allah will help you do your part:
To recite the Qur'an, and keep the fast,
To be first in faith and not the last,
For he to whom Allah's forgiveness is denied,
Is miserable indeed, in darkness set aside.


Remember, when fasting, the Judgment Day,
When hunger and thirst amongst you will stay.
Give generously now to those in need,
And always your elders respectfully heed;
And sympathy for the young you must bear in mind,
Likewise towards your relatives, always be kind.


Against unworthy words you must guard your tongue,
While unworthy sights your eyes must shun;
To your ears too, unworthy sounds
